Overcoming Fear: Insights from J. Krishnamurti

Jiddu Krishnamurti, the Indian philosopher believed awareness was essential for overcoming fear. He said Fear in all its forms creates an amazing amount of uncertainty…….

And as you have probably guessed, knowledge and understanding cannot free you from fear. The mind can go on creating anxiety, anger, stress and panic.

And knowing that fear is just an illusion does not stop it. In fact, most people know fear is a mental trick.

Krishnamurti knew that fear, whatever it was, exists only in your imagination as your own creation. And everybody’s fear is different and unique.

Learn from the past….

Krishnamurti understood that people learned from their past mistakes. And this prevented them from repeating them over and over again.

However, this doesn’t remove the fear associated with the problem. This remains leftover within the body/mind as ‘Karma’.

Krishnamurti knew the best way to overcome fear was to observe it in your mind. And by observing your mind in a detached way, without investment, fear gradually loses its power of influence.

Free yourself

It is only by closing your eyes and observing the “movement of fear” as Krishnamurti called it, you can free yourself. Fear is made up of your own thoughts and emotions.

Unfortunately, you can’t fight your fears without strengthening them. You can only observe them in a type of meditation.

Fear in all its forms

In reality, your fear may be based upon your fear of God, loneliness, not being successful, becoming unwell, fear of panic or fear of failure. Your fears are multifaceted and complex.

But freedom from your fears doesn’t mean you have to understand them. Perhaps this is why thinking logically doesn’t always help.

Not everybody wants to make sense of their fears. I know I would much rather be free of them and this is why I prefer this approach.

Fear = False Emotions Appearing Real

We often dwell on our thoughts and for some people they become nightmares. But don’t worry about it!

Worrying will never solve anything. Instead hold your attention in your heart and observe your mind, or whatever comes up.

It will feel a lot better than worrying about your problems. Give it a try, I have found it to be a valuable practice.

Why not delve deeper into J. Krishnamurti’s philosophy? You can gain powerful insights into human consciousness, in a manner that is practical and profound.
